Who we are

Expat Homebuyers, run by Thijs van der Vleuten, is responsible for processing your personal data as described in this statement. You can reach us at thijs@expathomebuyers.nl or +31 6 134 90 874.

Which data we collect

When you fill in the intake form or contact us, we process:

your name, email address and phone number;
the details of your search, such as area, type of home, bedrooms, budget and timing;
information about your situation that you share with us, such as whether you buy alone or together, where you live now, your mortgage status and your employer;
anything else you write to us by form, email or WhatsApp.

If you become a client, we also process the information we need to carry out the assignment, such as correspondence about homes, offers and contracts. If the law requires us to verify your identity, for example under the Dutch Anti-Money Laundering and Anti-Terrorist Financing Act (Wwft), we ask for a copy of your ID for that purpose only.

Why we use your data

To answer your request and contact you about your search. We do this with your consent and to take steps at your request before an agreement.
To carry out our services as your buyer’s agent, based on the agreement with you.
To meet legal obligations, such as tax retention rules and, where applicable, customer due diligence under the Wwft.
To keep this website secure and working, based on our legitimate interest.

We do not use your data for advertising and we never sell it.

How long we keep your data

Requests that do not lead to an assignment: up to 12 months after our last contact.
Client files: for the duration of the assignment and afterwards as long as the law requires, for example 7 years for our financial administration.
Data we must keep under the Wwft: 5 years after the end of the business relationship.

Who receives your data

We only share your data when this is needed for our services and with your knowledge, for example with the seller’s agent when you make an offer, or with a mortgage advisor, building inspector or notary you choose to work with.

The following service providers process data on our behalf, under a processing agreement:

Cloudflare, for hosting and securing this website;
Postmark, for delivering the emails sent through the intake form.

Some of these providers are based outside the European Economic Area. In that case the transfer is covered by appropriate safeguards, such as the EU standard contractual clauses. If you contact us through WhatsApp, WhatsApp’s own privacy policy also applies.

Security

We take appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your data, such as encrypted connections and limited access to your information.

Your rights

You have the right to access, correct or delete your personal data, to restrict or object to its processing and to receive your data in a portable format. If you gave consent, you can withdraw it at any time. Send your request to thijs@expathomebuyers.nl and we will respond within one month.

Not happy with how we handle your data? Please contact us first. You also have the right to file a complaint with the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens).
